EXPRESSIVE DRAWING for adults & teens: A mindful art workshop for beginners (1 of 4) @ Hamilton House | Bristol | United Kingdom

Art for the afraid presents…

Expressive Drawing: A Mindful Art Workshop for beginners or nervous returners to Art. (1 of 4 workshops)

With local artist Emma Burleigh.

This is one of a series of four workshops: you can attend any or all of them. Book all four in one go for a discount.

Do you long to recover the joy of drawing you felt in early childhood and do you feel discouraged?

Then this workshop is for you!

This workshop aims to coax out your creativity, calm the chattering mind, and experience the relaxing effects of shifting into a mindful, non-judgemental ‘state of being’ which is so integral to the practice of drawing.

In this first of a series of four workshops we’ll focus on some key skills for both observational and imaginative drawing to create your own lively and authentic images.

There will be an emphasis on encouraging the spacious mind state that allows your creativity to unfold. The art of drawing allows you to relax into the present moment, letting go of fixed ideas about how things should look or judgements about whether or not your artwork is “good”.

Practitioners of meditative drawing report feeling ‘more alive’, more aware of the beauty in the world around us, and more at ease. Meditative drawing can help us to greater well-being: we feel more creative, more self- accepting and become less hard on ourselves. Although outcome is less important than process, you will also find yourself drawing more skilfully and more expressively by the end of the day.

No previous experience of meditation or art is required!

Previous participants say:

“You demystified drawing for me.”

A very enjoyable, relaxing and peaceful journey to becoming/discovering the artist within, changing perceptions and gathering skills.”

I am as a result of the class more relaxed, feeling more in tune with my creativity, and more confident about creating. Brilliant!”

“Emma has nurtured my fragile confidence and enabled it to evolve into my own artistic voice, allowing me to find my full expression whilst also helping me to stay grounded in basic technique and method.”
